    I've had this knife for over a decade, and when my daughter had a wedding shower it was an easy decision to get one for her. She's started to really enjoy cooking and having a 'real' knife is one of the best investments you can make (don't forget to also get a honing steel and a whetstone).I like this over the Classic line because the bolster doesn't go all the way down to the blade, which makes sharpening easier. With the full bolster on the classic one, if you're not super careful not to hit the whetstone with the bolster you can damage the whetstone, and with the Ikon you don't have to worry about that.Other than that, this knife is as solid as they come. I've done everything with this knife, from micro-mincing garlic to rough chop watermelons to butchering chickens, this knife does it all with ease. Hone it every time you use it, sharpen it regularly, and you will have a cooking companion for life. I love the balance in my hand, better than the Classic ones. You should really go to a proper store and try them out yourself because there are real differences, but cannot go wrong.It's definitely pricy but it's worth every single penny.

    So sharp out of the box. Never did the “cut paper” test before. This knife did so with ease. Expensive. Buy once, Cry once. Very worth it.

    I own two 6" Classic Chef's knives, and wanted a larger one. The Classic Ikon was not more higher in price at the time versus the Classic, so that's what I went with. Like all my other Wusthof knives, this is an absolute joy to work with. Beautifully balanced in my hand, razor sharp and superb control. The forged blade is as much a work of art as it is an essential everyday tool. Makes cooking so much fun.

    Very solid knife, would have given it 5 stars but I'm should with my shun but dollar for dollar this one is a better knife. This one is about 150 where as my shun Hikari was about $220. I like that it has weight to it, out of the box it's pretty decently sharp I honed it with a stick and I tested it on celery and it just glides right through. Just got to work going to put it through its first service right now but I'm expecting good performance. Only downside is I have a high hold on the knife and where the handle meets the blade is more squared off where my shun tapers off more so I feel like it's not as comfortable in that regard. I really like the handle though it's classy I like it a lot. A very sturdy workhorse.
