Quality of the knives are great. Super sharp and sturdy. The block though is generic and doesn't perfectly match the knives you get. the set I bought had 3-4 smaller pairing knives but the block has slots to fit larget knives so you find you are putting 1/2' knives in slots that'll fit 2" wide knives. it makes them wobble around and also hard to see what knife you are getting. The price is marked up for the brand and with that I'd think you'd get a set that at least had a block that matched.
These are awesomely sharpened knives, but they are also quite expensive. I consider them more of a luxury than a necessity. They are as sharp as a set of kitchen knives can be. Will the edge last? Hard to know this early. There is a honing tool with the set, and that should help keep them sharp. Of course, unless you know how to use it, the tool will likely be of little use. One dilemma: they should be hand- washed to protect the blade and the handles, but they are so sharp that you risk injury when washing them by hand. Nice to have. The set likely makes a great wedding gift. Time will tell if the knives can take ordinary regular use without blunting or damage.
My wife and I have been researching different knife brands and decided to give this one a chance. We never regret the decision. Love these knives. Pretty sharp, cut precisely, smoothly. Haven't had to sharp it since we purchased it exactly a year ago. I usually take time reviewing my purchases and I think it's a good timing for this review because we've used these knives quiet a lot over the year. I don't want to go into the details of each particular knife, but overall, they all are made sturdy, sharp, comfortable in hand. Each knife has a weight to it relative to its' size, which makes it a real great product in my opinion.
These knives are terrific! They are a really nice addition to our kitchen and look great! They cut really well and even the big chef’s knife is easy to hold and use. There are a few more things in the set than we actually have use for, like the spreader, but still a solid good set of knives.
I received this knife set with no real high expectations simply because I knew this is Wüsthof‘s entry level knife set. I bought these knives with the intention of replacing my cheaper knife set made in China. So I bought a German knife set. The knives are sharp and the set is nice. Nothing stands out about this knife set that is particularly unique or eye popping. The set seems to be fine. However, the wood block is another. The Wood seems to be defective as far as the finish is concerned, or lack thereof. The finish on one side of the Block is worn off. Also, the slots on the Block seem to be too big for some of the smaller paring knives. The smaller knives fit sloppily in the slots. For the price you pay for this set you would think the fit and finish of this detail would be exact. Otherwise, I don’t have any real issues with this Wüsthof Gourmet set. If you are willing to accept this as a minor flaw in the set, the knives themselves seem to be of relatively good quality and good value.
Are these expensive? YesAre they worth it? Oh my goodness you've never used such nice knivesSure the old knives in your drawer work but these are just so much better. They have the right weight and feel good in your hands. I thought it was a dumb thing to get but after using them, I can't believe I went so long without them.I don't like the wood block they come in because it takes up a lot of counterspace but that's a personal preference so take that as you will :)
The media could not be loaded. Wow, the quality of these is so much better than I expected, especially as it was purchased “used” and these are brand new. Every knife had sleeve, the block even had the little plastic over the name plate. There is not a mark, scratch or deficit on any piece or the block. As far as cutting quality, these are the best knives I’ve ever purchased. I had a Cutco set prior and these are so much better. The cuts are clean and effortless, the handles comfortable… I can’t find anything negative to say about this set. Will update if anything changes
I previously rated this product low, since I only received the block, and not the knives. I was an idiot, and didn't open it at first to be able to address the situation. I re-ordered and received them today. Phenomenal product, and great value too!
I bought this for myself for Christmas. I bought the smallest Wusthof block set several years ago and have always been happy with them, but I wanted more variety of knives, and was thrilled to see this offered for 50% off! It arrived quickly and I wasted no time washing the knives and setting up the block. The block itself is a beautiful piece of wood with lots of variety in the color and grain and looks quite nice on the counter. This would make an outstanding gift and the price of course makes it even more attractive.
After hearing about how great these knives were i couldn’t wait to buy them. However, they were a little price for me but i heard they were worth it. So when my husband gifted them to me for Christmas, excited was an understatement.I started cutting up everything in my kitchen. They definitely met my standards for sharpness. However when it came to the scissors, while using them to cut something for my sons project they fell apart. So pretty much you can’t open them wide because they fall apart. I figured out how to use them and no biggie, I wasn’t sure if they were supposed to be like this or not. Has anyone had else had this problem? The knives however got soooooo rusty after the first wash. For a $550 knife set this is very disappointing. This happens almost every time I wash them and if I don’t dry them or even if they stay in the dishwasher I can expect them to get rust on them.
