This is a really great all-around knife for the kitchen and a must have in your collection. Whether it’s bread, veggies, fruit, or meat, you’ll fare well and appreciate this one. Careful as this baby is sharper than most of your knives. No joke. I recommend this knife over the cheaper version. Although the cheaper version is just fine I think the handle is much nicer on this IKON model.
Reverse serration works very well. You might not think you really need a sandwich knife until you use one and then you'll ask why you waited so long to get one. Great for use as a bread knife, sandwiches, fruit, etc.
Substantial knife, blade is sturdier than typical bread knife. Rounded serrations to a better job of slicing through a crusty bread than the serrations that have sharper points, which tend to tear the bread.
Super sharp. Easy to maintain with my three different grit sharpening steels. Great design and performance. High carbon steel is the only way to go.
Discovered this deli knife via a Chef Jean Pierre video and just had to give it a try. Very happy with the performance and quality so far. Used it for salads and making sandwiches with ease. Just be careful--it's sharp!
I had been admiring this knife for quite some time. I finally decided to spend the money. It is so worth it. The handle is the perfect angle. Chef'n makes a spatula that has a split in the middle. It holds the sandwich in place while cutting in half. Between those two items, cutting even the fattest panini is a breeze.
I use it for tomatoes, bread, and salads. Very sharp and well balanced like my other Ikon knives. Love it!UPDATE:This is still my favorite knife of all the Ikons I own. But I too am seeing some dulling of the edge after using it for 6 months - it still cuts everything well but just not as well as when it was new. I called Wusthof today and they told me that this knife doesn't need to be sharpened (it does). And also that even they cannot sharpen it and I should send it back to get it evaluated and possibly replaced. (I bought another one as a gift before talking to Wusthof but will have to send mine to the company for evaluation.)*I'm subtracting 1 star from my original review for not being able to sharpen this knife but I do trust their customer service to replace my knife if defective.
As a semi-pro cook, this has been my go-to knife since its inception. Guests and family who lend a hand in my kitchen or who participate in big batch cooking days with me always remark about this knife. I have a stand out collection of knives but this one is the star.... and very versatile too. Yes, we have one on our boat too and it is the perfect vacation hostess gift for those with pared down kitchens. Originally known as "the deli knife" it is the one I would pick if I could have only one 8-10 inch knife in my kitchen or galley. Worth every penny and more.
As a working chef, I have seen offset serrated knives come to dominate the workplace in the last 15 years. They are used by most prep cooks instead of a chef's knife for primary work. It is in that light that I found this knife wanting. The build quality and ergonomics are very good, every bit what I expect from Wustoff, and if you only use it to cut sandwiches, you will never have a problem. But the alloy is too soft and it isn't sharp enough. On a straight edge knife, I'd adjust the edge myself, but that's a practical impossibility for scallop serrations. It deforms very quickly on contact with plastic cutting boards -- which means you cannot slice things very long before it dulls. To pay over $100 for a knife that dulls so fast and has only limited ability to be steeled is damning.I would recommend shoppers go past this and look for products using VG10 or powdered steel cores like SG2.
Fabulous knife... worth every penny.
